The Future is Here: Swank Davis

Featured artist: Swank Davis - The Future is Here: Swank Davis

Below is a short interview with the upcoming underground artist Swank Davis.

How did you decide to become an artist?

Swank Davis: Where I'm from everyone is doing something. Whether you're playing ball, singing, or, dancing we did something. I started playing basketball. I was good at that and I decided to that serious. I got into trouble and had it taken away so I had to pick another thing I love in which i can capitalize off of. I started doing it more and more and just got into it. I always loved music coming from a dad who had a recording deal with Sony. I was always put on to a lot of 80s and 90s hiphop along with some funk. The transition was very easy.

The best Advice given as an artist was stay true to yourself and don't look up. I think stay true to yourself could stick to everyone because if you try to force work you may be able to do it, but it may not be your best work. Getting creative and experimenting is a good thing but just make sure its you. Don't look up is self explanatory, once you hit the ground running don't stop just keep going. Don't look up.

What about concerts? Do you play live?

I did a couple of Fashion shows upstate New York, and and a couple of local performances In the City. I am looking for more concerts to get booked to, but I have local shows contacting me.

Best punchline you ever wrote?

My daddy said never disappear, keep ya foot on the pedal, So I guess that's why he nixed us like he was melo, Always been my Achilles heel like you bitches high stilettos

What are you currently working on? Did you release something in the past?

I just released a mixtape at the end of may called The New Jungle then released another one after that called Trance. Everyone make sure you go check those out Asap.

Last but not least: Would you sign a record contract with a major label?

I don't know yet. Labels give out horrible deals now a days, 360 deals or less. I would be a partner with a label but not sign. The pro's though is they could get you noticed faster

Any last words?

I come from The Bronx. Shoutout to The Bronx. I moved to so many different boroughs though so shoutout to Brooklyn and Harlem. Shoutout to my Brothers Trav, James, Nique, Berto, Dree, Angel Mph, 3day, Ty Mack, Jamie, Ty Bigga Mozi, Tru ID,
