THAT'S WHAT I KNOW!!!

Featured artist: ENCORE - THAT’S WHAT I KNOW!!!

Below is a short interview with the upcoming underground artist ENCORE.

How did you decide to become an artist?

ENCORE: Corey ”Encore” McKenzie was born in the Bronx, New York and grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. He first took an interest in hip-hop music at age 8 after receiving a copy of the Notorious B.I.G’s Life After Death LP. It was during this time that McKenzie identified his passion for writing and storytelling. After being recognized by a junior high school teacher McKenzie was given the opportunity to perform in front of his first audience. It wasn’t long after this performance that McKenzie decided he would eventually pursue a career in music. In 2008 McKenzie enrolled at Georgia State University where he began to link with fellow local rappers and develop a more socially aware rhyme style. It was also during these years that he took the stage name Encore and began to follow up on pursuing his dream of a career as a hip-hop artist.

”Stop writing lyrics down; do it off the top, the energy and delivery ends up coming across way better”

What about concerts? Do you play live?

Absolutely!!! I have an Independence Day performance on July 5th with 2, 30 foot stages!

Best punchline you ever wrote?

”RUN UP IN THE GATE, LOOKING FOR A CHECK MATE, BIRTHING THESE NIGGAZ AND STAMPING THEY DEATH DATE, FUCK YOUR POSITION, I 360 YOUR FIGURE 8”!

What are you currently working on? Did you release something in the past?

We’re back in the studio gearing up for a Summer release. In the meantime, enjoy the latest mixtape produced by The Quorum: http://www.datpiff.com/Encore-Encore-mixtape.542785.html

Last but not least: Would you sign a record contract with a major label?

It depends on how far I get independently and what the situation is. I’m definitely not against it. I think you can do the independent grind for awhile but eventually you’ll want to compete on a larger scale and majors have that machine in place. The negative is now you have a boss and they gonna want you to do certain things that you may not want to. You just have to know whats right for you and your situation at that moment.

Any last words?

Shout outs to The Bronx, The ATL Fam, The Quorum Productions, ZU CRU!,
